Lenovo S10E netbook Idea Pad
I bought a Lenovo IdeaPad Model Number S10E in September 2009 in Australia.
It’s what they call a netbook.
Not notebook.
Because they’re smaller and lighter with a smaller hard drive and they say it does not have as much power as a notebook.
It has an LCD lit back screen.
The screen size is 10½ inch which is a lot more than the original netbook tiny screen on the ASUS EEE.
I’m in Australia.
I found the best price by going to whirlpool.net.au and looking up their category of gadgets.
There they give you which retailers have got the best price at that time.
And I found that it depended where you live .
Are you closest to Melbourne or Sydney?
So, you can pick the best price.
I got it from a place in Melbourne for $488 and I had to go and pick it up. Not far. Just in the next suburb.
I’m quite pleased with the battery life, it’s 6 hours.
Yes, 6 hours and I paid $488.
Now compare that battery life with a more expensive laptop.
The salesman seemed to think that the IdeaPad is really for kids to do homework on.
Hey, this has got wi-fi.
It has 2 USB slots.
I can slide into a vacant USB slot my mobile internet USB stick.
I haven’t found anyweb site I can’t browse on.
Okay, the screen could be just a tiny bit larger.
But sometimes I think the salesmen don’t know what they’re talking about – $458AUD that cost me including GST.
I’ve got the carton here and on it is a picture of the lithium-ion battery that lasts 6 hours.
It works fine.
It’s got Windows XP. I actually prefer that to Windows Vista.
But it’s capable of Windows 7 when it’s released.
The RAM is one megabit. And a 160Gig hard drive which is enough for me.
And even if it’s not, as I said, it has USBs where I can put in an external hard drive .
I’m using a wireless mouse on it because I really don’t like the touchpads on any computer.
Although this touchpad seems fine. It’s got the traditional one.
Now, it comes in one color, black. That was all I could find in Australia. Actually, it does come in white.
I’m sorry, It does come in white.
They didn’t have a white for the price in Melbourne.
But they did in Sydney, interestingly enough.
The manufacture date on the one that I bought was July 2009.
Made in China, of course.
And, it’s backed by IBM; Lenovo IdeaPad and Idea Center are trademark s of Lenovo in the United States and other countries. Copyright 2009.
And I’ve called for help already.
A question about screen resolution – how I change that.
As it turned out I didn’t need to.
But the guy was very helpful.
He was in New York.
And it was a local call for me.
So, the speed is fine for me too.
I find the speed depends on the internet.
I have BigPond advance cable at home on a wi-fi.
So that’s fine.
The speed’s fine.
At my local coffee shop, Joe’s Garage, the high-speed wi-fi is free. That’s fine.
And my USB sticks with Three or Vodafone can be a bit slow during peak hours when mobile towers are busy but apart from that it’s very fast.
I can get emails anywhere in the city.
Web browse.
Do all sorts of coding.
Flash Works of course, unlike on my iPhone.
Flash pages work.
I can drop this netbook, I believe.
I haven’t tried it.
But they tell me I can drop it and it won’t break it.
Yeah.
This got 4½ out of 5 stars from Internet Shop ( me).
